You cannot afford cheap shoes.

Men's dress shoes are generally made of leather and nothing compares to the quality and durability of fine Italian leather shoes. The leather employed by the finest Italian designers is generally "full grain" leather, which means that it comes from the highest quality animal skins. Lesser quality leather must be treated and sanded to get a smooth surface appearance and consistent color. Cheap shoes use much lower quality leather that is thinner and far less durable.

Also, a guy must consider the ability of the shoe to be repaired. Fine Italian men's shoes should last for years if properly cared for. There is no need to go with the latest, craziest fashion trend, but your shoes must be designed and constructed by people who have an eye for what works.
